Diving & Turtles

Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Perhentian, meaning "Stopover Island" in Malay, has become one of Malaysia's most beloved diving destinations. Located about 21 kilometers off the coast of Terengganu, this pair of islands—Perhentian Besar (Big Island) and Perhentian Kecil (Small Island)—offers visitors an unforgettable combination of pristine beaches, incredible marine life, and that rare sense of being truly away from it all. compare Perhentian with Kapas.

What draws visitors from around the world is the underwater world. The waters around Perhentian teem with life—sea turtles glide past regularly, reef sharks patrol the deeper waters, and colorful coral gardens host an incredible diversity of tropical fish. Whether you're a certified diver or complete beginner, Perhentian offers experiences that will stay with you long after you leave.

Unlike some commercialized resort islands, Perhentian has maintained much of its natural beauty. While you'll find comfortable accommodation and good food, the islands have resisted overdevelopment. The jungle-covered interior, mangrove forests, and unspoiled beaches remain largely intact.

Two Islands, Two Vibes

Perhentian Besar (the larger island) is quieter and more upmarket, with mid-range to higher-end resorts catering to couples, families, and those seeking relaxation. The beaches are pristine, the atmosphere peaceful, and the focus is on comfort and nature.

Perhentian Kecil (the smaller island) has developed a reputation as a backpacker haven. Long Beach buzzes with budget accommodation, beach bars, and international travelers swapping stories. Coral Bay offers a slightly quieter alternative while still maintaining the social atmosphere.

Many visitors stay on one island but take water taxis to explore the other. The short boat ride between islands costs just a few ringgit and lets you experience the best of both worlds.
